Thanks for this great and enlightening interview with Dr. Ambia Parween. I couldn’t agree more with her analysis and how unrealistic it is to a
repatriate „180.000“ Rohingya back to Myanmar. To announce such nonsense is the utmost cynical, giving wrong hopes to the Rohingya and is playing with their desperate situation inside the camps of Bangladesh. First of all there is no interest or announcement of Myanmar to grant full legal status with approved citizenship for the Rohingya. This should come BEFORE any announcement of repatriation. Secondly the deep rooted racism of the Rakhine population and also the Arakan Army against the Rohingya makes a peaceful living side by side impossible. Still the Rakhine are looking down on the Rohingya and don’t accept them as their neighbors. And thirdly there is nothing to go back to at this point. There is a cruel junta destroying the country everywhere. Rohingya villages are all burned down by both armies - the junta and AA. Before any Rohingya can go back to their homeland, functioning living conditions and infrastructure on the ground must be installed with the help of many NGO‘s and government institutions. Right now Myanmar is not a pleasant place to live. Nowhere in the country. Until there is no peace, a repatriation of the Rohingya stays a dream and its realization very far in the future. The bottom line is: More Patience is needed. Something the Rohingya unfortunately are forced to live with for far too long now.

I can't agree more. The int'l community's full monitoring & support are also needed if repatriation realizes at all.
