Breaking News: Tragedy and Uproar at Bhasan Char Hospital
Pregnant Woman and Child Die, Doctor Fleeing Scene Apprehended by Rohingya Refugees
Bhasan Char, Bay of Bengal – A tragic incident has unfolded at the 20-bed hospital on Bhasan Char, resulting in the deaths of a pregnant Rohingya woman and her child. According to the victim's family, the woman was forced into early labour by a doctor, leading to the fatal outcome. Nazmun Nahar leaves behind her grieving husband and a six-year-old child.
Official documents reveal that the cause of death was "Irreversible cardio-respiratory failure due to anaphylactic shock (Bupivacaine hypersensitivity)." This suggests a severe reaction to the anaesthesia administered during the procedure, potentially indicating medical negligence.
Following the deaths, the doctor fled the hospital premises, only to be apprehended by enraged Rohingya refugees who then locked him, along with three other female doctors, in a hospital room.
The incident has sparked significant unrest among the refugees. In response, several other doctors at the hospital have fled, fearing for their safety. To prevent further violence, police have been deployed to guard other medical facilities in the area.
In an attempt to address the situation, the Camp-in-Charge (CIC) has offered assurances to the victim's family, presumably to dissuade them from filing a formal complaint. Despite these efforts, the victim's family and the wider Rohingya community remain inconsolable and outraged by the events.
Due to strict surveillance by the administration, no videos or pictures of the incident have been captured. The situation remains tense with the authorities struggling to find a solution that will accommodate the natural and understandable demands of the island community.
