Food and Tragedy in Bhasan Char

Each residential cluster on Bhasan Char has a pond. NGOs have introduced tilapia fish into these ponds. After a few months, the fish are harvested and distributed among the homes within each cluster. Additionally, there are bigger fishery projects situated outside the cluster zones.

In 2023, four children tragically lost their lives in these cluster ponds.

In the image below, the man has acquired fish from Rohingya refugees who fish in the sea. He then proceeds to dry the fish and prepare "shutki" for sale.
