I was very saddened to learn of the passing of Gwen Robinson, a distinguished editor at Nikkei Asia. Our paths crossed last year during my chemotherapy treatments. Despite her own health struggles, Gwen's commitment to her work was inspiring. I once expressed my amazement at her perseverance, confessing that each cycle of treatment left me floored, while she continued to press on. Her response was both humbling and enlightening:
"Oh Shafiur…You know, it’s sort of an affirmation of life... when you give up, I think you give up the struggle. But as long as there are still things you care about, like you obviously do and I do, focusing on those issues is actually its own form of therapy."
Gwen's words encapsulate her spirit. And they are a testament to her resilience and the therapeutic power of purpose. I am certain her memory will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
May she rest in peace.
Thank you for this tribute to someone who must have chosen to live an inspiring life. Sounds as if you have lost a respected colleague and friend. Condolences.
