The Unsettling Silence Following Dil Mohammed's Abduction
A Rohingya refugee settlement has been reduced to ashes, lives tragically lost, and 4500 individuals displaced. Their shelters have been consumed by flames, yet a silence pervades the aftermath.
Just published a new piece in The Diplomat about a significant and troubling event from January of 2023. Here are some key questions I delve into and key questions that remain unanswered:
Who is Dil Mohammed, and why was he a crucial voice for the Rohingya people in the No Man's Land camp?
What were the circumstances of Dil Mohammed's abduction?
Why does a resounding silence envelop the abductions of Dil Mohammed and other Rohingya from No Man’s Land, especially in the wake of an entire Rohingya settlement being reduced to ashes, resulting in numerous casualties and displacement of 4500 people?
Have Rohingya organisations, the ICRC, or UNHCR issued any responses or statements concerning this dire event?
What are the responsibilities of the international community in responding to this abduction and destruction of a refugee camp?
What is the relationship between the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) & Bangladesh?
