Content note: This film contains accounts of extreme violence and loss.
On 30 August 2017, Tula Toli (Min Gyi) was emptied by the Myanmar junta’s rocket launchers, bullets and fire. Hundreds were slaughtered. Homes were burned. Survivors arrived in Bangladesh with nothing but the memory of what they had just witnessed. Eight years later, there has been no justice for the survivors.
In the first days of September 2017, I met the survivors as they poured across the border.
This film, Testimonies of a Massacre: Tula Toli, was made from those early encounters. The people who speak in it were there. Their voices remain among the most urgent accounts of what happened that day.
Eight years have passed. There has been no justice. The survivors remain in camps. Some have died. Others are forgotten. But their words endure.
